Emu Plum 'Podocarpus drouynianus'
Native to the South-West of WA. Emu Plum is a large bushy shrub growing to 2.5m. Fruit is purple/dark blue and up to 4cm long. One end contains the seed part (green) which is discarded and the fleshy ‘fruit’ (about the size of a grape) is eaten. What is eaten is actually the fleshy stalk of the true fruit. Male and female plants are required for fruiting, so multiple planting is recommended.
Tolerates both shaded and sunny positions, with well drained soil.
