Heirloom beetroot from the 1700's that produces large white/yellow tapered roots and green silverbeet like leaves. Roots have a good flavour and smooth texture if eaten when young good in soups, stews and roasted. Leaves can also be eaten. Often grown as a fodder crop for sheep. Also known as Fodder Beet and Mangel Beet. Grows best through cooler months. Roots can grow in excess of 18 kg but are much better eating when picked young.
