Leonotis leonurus
Lion’s Tail is a stunning perennial shrub that produces bright orange flowers in long spikes. The flowers attract bees and butterflies to your garden. The plant is native to South Africa and is reported to be used by nomadic tribe for social and medicinal uses, leaves can be smoked. The leaves and flowers are also brewed as a tea for many medicinal uses including – upper respiratory infection. The main active constituent leonurine has both antioxidant and cardioprotective properties. Lion’s Tail is easy to grow from seeds and prefers a sunny spot with well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and can be pruned to maintain a compact shape.
