Heimia salicifolia

Heimia salicifolia, commonly known as sinicuichi, is a species of flowering plant in the Loosestrife family, Lythraceous. The plant has been used for shamanic purposes by native peoples in Central America and Mexico. It’s also known by other common names such as shrubby yellowcress, sun opener, willow-leaf Hermia.

The use of H. salicifolia for shamanic purposes involves collecting fresh leaves and allowing them to wilt. The leaves are then placed in a cup or jar with cool water and left in the sun to brew and ferment for at least 24 hours. It is believed that during this process, the knowledge of the sun is embedded into the potion, creating what is referred to as the "elixir of the sun".
